United by Christmas
by Nadia Morokhovets
Dear sisters, today we gather as women united by Christmas—united by hope, by promise, and by the faithfulness of God. When we look into Scripture, we find a beautiful thread woven through the lives of four women: Eve, Elizabeth, Mary, and Anna. Their stories—though centuries apart—lead us to one place: to Jesus, the Light of the world.
1. Eve – The Beginning of the Promise
Eve was the first woman, the mother of all living. Her story begins in beauty but quickly enters brokenness. Yet even in Eve’s darkest moment, God spoke a promise:
“The seed of the woman will crush the serpent’s head.” — Genesis 3:15
God’s first Christmas message was spoken in the Garden—a Savior is coming.
Eve teaches us that even when we fall, God begins writing redemption.
2. Elizabeth – The Woman Who Waited
Fast-forward thousands of years. Elizabeth, righteous and faithful, lived with disappointment and unanswered prayers. Yet when the time was right, the Lord opened her womb, and she conceived John the Baptist—the one who would prepare the way for Jesus.
Elizabeth reminds us that waiting is not wasted when God is in it.
Her joy overflowed when she welcomed Mary, declaring:
“Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!” — Luke 1:45
Today, Elizabeth encourages every woman who is waiting, praying, and longing—God sees you.
3. Mary – The Woman Who Believed
Mary was young, humble, and unknown. Yet God chose her. When the angel brought the impossible news, Mary responded with simple, surrendered faith:
“Let it be to me according to Your word.” — Luke 1:38
Mary shows us that God still uses ordinary women to accomplish extraordinary purposes.
Her obedience brought the Savior into the world.
Her song still echoes through the ages: “My soul magnifies the Lord.”
This Christmas, Mary invites us to say “yes” to God even when we don’t understand the whole plan.
4. Anna – The Woman Who Worshiped
Anna was a widow, elderly, and often overlooked by society. Yet she spent her life in worship, prayer, and devotion. The moment she saw Jesus in the temple, she began proclaiming:
“…she gave thanks to God and spoke about the Child…” — Luke 2:38
Anna shows us that it’s never too late to encounter Jesus, never too late to worship, never too late to bear fruit for God.
One Story — One Savior
Eve points to the promise.
Elizabeth reminds us of faithfulness in waiting.
Mary reveals obedience.
Anna displays devotion and worship.
Together, these four women form a chorus whispering:
“Jesus is coming. Jesus has come. Jesus is here.”
And that is what unites us today.
Not just Christmas traditions or decorations, but Christ Himself—the One who heals our brokenness like Eve, fulfills our longings like Elizabeth, gives purpose to our obedience like Mary, and fills our worship like Anna.
Sisters, may this Christmas draw us closer to one another and closer to the Savior.
May we carry Eve’s hope, Elizabeth’s perseverance, Mary’s surrender, and Anna’s worship into our homes, our families, and our circumstances.
Because we are women united by Christmas—united by Christ.
Amen.
