Easter message, 2021 - Fabienne Seguin

Jesus is risen, indeed!

Fabienne Seguin - Easter, 2021

“So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell His disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. ‘Greetings’, he said. They came to Him, clasped His feet and worshiped Him” (Matthew 28:8 -9)

The last days of Jesus’ life were so emotionally intense for Him and the people around Him. He had warned them, He had explained to them that he would be mistreated, killed and rise again on the third day. But it was very hard to understand. And again, everything He said happened. Within three days they experienced all that He announced to them. It was so intense. I try to imagine what my feelings would have been if I had been standing at the entrance of the tomb. The Bible said that the guards were so afraid of the angel that they shook and became like dead men. But these women stayed and listened and they obeyed him « afraid yet filled with joy ». They didn’t think that it was a bad joke. They trusted. They didn’t ask questions. In such an unusual context, they were confident. And on the way they met Jesus who started to talk to them so naturally : ‘Greetings’ He said as if it was absolutely normal to meet Him on this road.

Dear Sisters, sometimes we struggle a lot with our feelings, with our circumstances. We feel uncomfortable because we cannot control situations. But we have an amazing privilege : every morning when we awake and open our eyes we can hear Jesus saying « Greetings ». He welcomes us for a new day, a day when all the unexpected events that could frighten us will turn to battles won and victories. And why ? Because Jesus is risen, indeed ! He has given His life to save us. He is all-powerful ! Do we  feel everyday the same joy as the women on the third day?

On behalf of the EBWU committee, I wish you a blessed Easter Sunday.
