What
a lot has taken place since then in our world, in our countries, in our
communities, in our churches and in our own lives, some changes for
good, some for bad; as God's children let us endeavour to work with
Him for good.
In this issue we have exciting stories to share with you of how God is
at work among the women of Europe, of how He is changing lives, of how
He is using His women to 'prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up' (Ephesians
4:12). Roughly one year ago three Norwegian women travelled to Sierra
Leone and you can read of their adventures and involvement there, of
how God blessed them and made them a blessing. Also you can read of
what God is doing in individual lives in the camps of Ukraine, and of
one German woman's testimony of what God has done in her life over the
years, not forgetting another instalment from Lauren and the
continuing story of our IBTS student Jenny Kanunnikova from Kazakhstan.
I think it is wonderful that the Lord continues to work in our lives,
changing us, moving us on, making us more like Him, as we daily
surrender to His will.
Over the past few weeks my quiettime devotions have been from
Ephesians, so I make no apology for using verses and thoughts I've
gleaned from this wonderful letter of Paul in God's Word. As I have
already said, our world is constantly changing and it is easy to become
caught up in the pressures of living in this world and being drawn into
its temptations. 'Be very careful,
then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of
every opportunity, because the days are evil' (Ephesians 5:15&16) is prudent advice for every child of God. In Jesus' words, from Matthew 10:16, 'I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves'; we
must be on our guard always. Jesus had every confidence in His
disciples that through them His Church would be firmly established and
continue to grow until His return. Obviously they were faithful to the
Master's instructions for we are here today to prove their
faithfulness and the faithfulness of the saints down through the
centuries. We are continuing in the same work and witness as we seek to
introduce others to Jesus Christ. Therefore we must be very careful not
to slip into the alluring ways of the world which call out to us every
day but to stand firm, clothed with the armour He provides and be true
to our calling, to see each opportunity as it comes to us and make use
of it to share the truth about Jesus.
May the true stories published in this issue be an inspiration to us
all to be ever more determined to make our lives count for our Lord and
Saviour. May we rely totally on the Holy Spirit to give us the courage
to witness fearlessly.
Allow me, on behalf of our EBWU committee, to take this opportunity to
wish all our readers a very Blessed Christmas and may 2010 be a year of
blessing as we reach out with God's love and God's truth to a world in
need. May we see much accomplished for the sake of the Kingdom of God
through our prayers and efforts.
'Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.'
